Peru celebrates tasty guinea pigs
In this photo provided by Glencore International Group, The biggest Guinea Pig in Peru weighting more than 3kg, is shown during a festival in Lima, Sunday, June 24, 2007. In the Andean highlands, the guinea pig is not a furry friend of schoolchildren, but a culinary delicacy that deserves a parade. (AP Photo/Glencore International Group)

Date: 2007-06-26 02:46 am (UTC)I only get angry when people get all upset over the fact that piggies are eaten in Peru. Every now and then, vegetarians will join in the melee and it just gets out of hand.
They're usually not quite as fat as that one in the photo, but the usual preparation is something akin to rotisserie style.
(and you thought there would be much wailing and gnashing of teeth, yes? HA.)

Unless people have HAD chickens as pets, they don't see farm animals as cuddly beings. I actually know how cool chickens can be - I used to live next to a small little chicken farm, and a couple would wander over and sleep on my bed. Awesome.
However, I am a meat-eater, so any sort of argument from me would be highly hypocritical. MY line is outright disgusting behaviours such as foie gras and the $4,000 drowned sparrow. That shit is just wrong.
