In response to a locked post by [livejournal.com profile] l0stmyrel1g10n, I wrote the following long rant against infant circumcision of boys. I'm mostly against, though not yet entirely convinced. Enough that I will not blindly accept what doctors or a partner tell me, but enough unconvinced that I'm willing to discuss it.

The rant... )
I take a tri-phasil version of the Pill. Usually I start a pack on a Friday night, have 3 weeks of real pills, and week 4 starts placebos (or I just toss them) on a Friday night, and I menstruate for 4 days, Monday morning through Thursday. I am now taking the packs back-to-back: as soon as I get up to week 4 placebos I start the next pack, until the end of the third pack - I am not yet up to that week, my first placebo week will start on Friday.

W1-3 = P1.1-3 = As normal. I didn't even decide until sometime in week 3 that I would start taking the packs back-to-back.
W4 = P2.1 = Old P1.4 = Breakthrough bleeding starting near the middle of the week, continuing into P2.2 = W5, 4-7 days total, light flow.
W5-6 = P2.2-3 = As normal.
W7 = P3.1 = "P2.4" = Breakthrough bleeded started in the middle of the week, light flow
W8-9 = P3.2-3 = Breakthrough bleeding continues, light to moderate flow.
W10 = P3.4 = next week.

That's right, I've a pill-month of breakthrough bleeding - if any males are reading this, the term usually refers to light menstruation happening in the middle of the month while on the pill. ARGH! I keep hoping it will go away. I keep wondering if I should quit, but the problem is I feel I should give it at least 3 cycles to know for sure how it works, but at 10 weeks per cycle that's around half a year!

Anyone else ever try this? How long did it take your body to adjust?

Free EC Day

Dec. 4th, 2006 07:46 am
If you live in MA, Wednesday is free Emergency Contraception Day at Planned Parenthoods. It looks like men can even pick some up for their women friends.

Full PPLM notice )
pregnancies ends in a miscarriage. I never knew that. I stumbled across this story by a woman who seems to have a similar mind set to mine about her own miscarriage. It's a long read, but VERY worthwhile.
Two women married in MA have filed for divorce in RI. This is the first gay divorce I have heard of, and it's the first one the RI courts have seen. Their laws are silent on gay marriage and the issue hasn't been forced yet, so this now *is* the first test of their laws. I'm not holding my breath - that is, while I am hopeful RI will do the right thing, it's not clear to me what the right thing even *is* here, nor do I think it'll happen quickly.
I don't really get what the big issue is about breastfeeding in public. Yes, it makes me feel uncomfortable when I see a woman doing it. However, that's MY problem, not the mother's, not the baby's, so I avert my eyes. It's not doing anyone harm, and it's helping the baby and mother. Stupid people.

It's just like when guys walk around without shirts in their house - I'm not all that comfortable with it, but it's their house, they can do what they want, so it's my problem not theirs. Now, if someone were walking around naked in a friend's house (with me as a witness) I might say something, but chances are just as good that I'd hold my tongue and choose not to return to that place.
Reposting from an email from Planned Parenthood:

Starting Today, PPLM Provides
Emergency Contraception (EC) Over-The-Counter!

No Appointment - No Prescription - No Visit With a Clinician

Need EC?
Now it is even easier to get emergency contraception (EC) at
Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts (PPLM). Get EC when
you need it, or plan ahead and keep EC in your medicine cabinet.

What is EC?
EC is an FDA-approved form of contraception that can prevent
unintended pregnancy if taken up to five days after unprotected
sex. The sooner it is taken, the more effective it will be.

How do I get EC now that it is over-the-counter?
Starting today, women 18 and older will be able to get EC at
PPLM without a prescription. You will need a valid ID to
purchase EC, but you will not need to meet with a doctor or
nurse.

How do I get EC if I am under 18?
You can still get a prescription for EC at PPLM in 30 minutes or
less. Walk-in any time we are open or submit a request for a
prescription online at
http://www.ppaction.org/ct/s1SHcC51OmKA/PPLM.

Use the Tell-A-Friend feature below to spread the word about
increased access to EC to your friends and family. For more
information, please call 1-800-258-4448 or visit our website at

I was under the impression it was already available OTC in MA prior to this, but I could be mistaken.
This is a horrible story of attempting to find Emergency Contraception after a condom broke. In my state thankfully Plan B has been legal and over the counter for a while, so a doctor's approval is not needed, however at places like Wal-Mart and Target, the pharmacists who dispense it can still have "morality clauses." This is I continue to avoid both Wal-Mart and Target when possible.

On a happier topic, start using GoodSearch. They're a yahoo-powered search engine that brings in revenue thru ads, and for every time you perform a search one cent goes to the charity or educational institution of your choice. You can change charities as often as you like, and if your favorite isn't listed there's a form to fill out to get them on it. I added my school and I've since virtually donated some 6ยข - I keep changing to animal parrot rescues I read about, and other good causes. I'm now using GoodSearch for my default search engine, you can add them to your toolbar on any search engine but Safari, and only switching to Google when GoodSearch comes up dry. Pass it on!
